What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment offered to our patients for teeth straightening, proper bite alignment, overcrowding alignment, gap correction, and protruding teeth. The treatment system involves using a series of customized clear aligners made of medical-grade thermoplastic as opposed to brackets, wires, and bands. Some people are still skeptical as to how plastic devices can possibly help improve one’s crooked and unruly smile.

Nevertheless, the efficacy and validity of Invisalign have been backed up by over 20 years of clinical studies and research, along with dramatically improved results and positive testimonials from over 6 millions satisfied patients throughout the country.

Top Advantages of Receiving Invisalign®

While traditional braces still offer similar results and are recommended when certain contra-implications prohibit you from getting clear aligners, there are a number of reasons why Invisalign has become the preferred method for correcting teeth alignment issues.

Key benefits of choosing Invisalign clear aligners over regular braces include:

  • Clear discretion - Implying it within its own name as a play around the phrase “invisible aligners,” these aligning devices truly are invisible! They are unnoticeable and do not diminish your natural smile.

  • Conveniently removable - Other than the requirement of wearing your Invisalign aligners for a minimum of 20 hours to achieve the most optimal results, they are removable at your convenience, whether it be a job interview, date with someone, or contact sport where you need to switch to a mouthguard for protective measures.

  • More hygienic - Normal braces are painstakingly hard to clean, and neglected oral hygiene while having braces can result in straight but decayed or damaged teeth in the end. Having the ability to remove your aligners when brushing and flossing your teeth helps maintain your smile healthy and beautiful for when your desired results appear.

  • Greater comfort - Manufactured out of a patented plastic that glides perfectly into your tooth arch or arches, Invisalign’s smooth material is safe and won’t irritate or damage your gums or tooth enamel.

  • Enhanced customer satisfaction - With millions of patients achieving impressive results nationwide, adults as much as teenagers alike attest to having a more bearable and pleasant orthodontic experience, not having to deal with the mouth irritations and time at the dentist handling adjustments if they had obtained traditional braces. Not to mention that patients love the freedom of eating whatever they choose without the restrictions from regular braces.

How Invisalign® Treatment Works

Just like their more traditional alternative, the purpose of Invisalign is to reposition your teeth into proper alignment and uniformity using applied force. The increased tractability and time management Invisalign provides calls for a more proficient and efficient orthodontic treatment when compared to formal braces. Each one of our patients is unique, and as such, so will their treatment plan.

Nevertheless, the overall process of orthodontic treatment using clear aligners follows the same general steps:

  1. After verifying your eligibility for treating your imperfect teeth with Invisalign, digital scans or mold impressions of your teeth will be taken to create your personalized aligning trays.

  2. Once the trays have been made, you can come in for a final fitting to see if your initiating set of aligners fit perfectly, and once they’ve been deemed satisfactory by your provider, you will be released home with your set of trays.

  3. Depending on every patient’s custom treatment plan, each set of aligners in the series is worn for about one to two weeks, and are strictly recommended to stay on your teeth for 20-22 hours every day in order to maximize the best possible results. Generally, the only times they really should be removed are when you eat, drink, brush, or floss your teeth .

  4. As you start moving from one set of aligners to the next ones in your series, your teeth progressively start to straighten out. With your own Invisalign plan, a description containing the stages of when to upgrade your clear aligners and which teeth will be moved or realigned during their corresponding stages are readily available for you to keep track of how your treatment is progressing.

  5. You will also be asked to check in with us at least once every six weeks to certify that the clear aligners are functioning correctly and that the treatment is advancing successfully.

  6. The complete treatment time for Invisalign varies from case to case, depending on each patient’s individual conditions, needs, and wants. The duration of how long Invisalign is required can range anywhere from 9 months to 18 months.
