Non-Surgical Periodontal Procedures
Our team provides Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy services in the following three steps :
- Because of the paradigm shift to look at Periodontal disease as a bacteria-caused disease leading to a systemic inflammatory response, Dr. Allman and his Hygienist Team go to the source of the problem.
- They discover the pathogenic bacteria around the teeth and under the gum tissue using saliva testing and studying the bacteria from the plaque/biofilm on the patient’s teeth.
- Finally, a plan is tailored to the specific bacteria types present and the degree of damage of bone and connective tissue.
If the gum tissue that faces the tooth structure (not the outside surfaces that we see, but the “inside” parts where your hygienist looks for plaque and tartar) is thought of as a measured surface area, the total surface area of the “inside” surfaces throughout your mouth would be similar in size to an open wound on your palm. That is a big area for bacteria to travel in and out of your bloodstream. The Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy technique cleans and irrigates this “open wound” with antibacterial agents after breaking up plaque/biofilm layers on the teeth. It is also surprisingly not that discomforting, and is certainly less invasive than having open flap gum surgery.
